Novice Campers Travelling Oz

Packing: First thing we did was choose the camping trailer (Complete Campsite) and 4WD (Landcruiser 100 series) that had the most storage capacity!!!  Then I went and bought each of us a suitcase, measuring them carefully to try and fit the largest possible case into the designated space (there is enough space to stand upright 5 suitcases at the end of the bed, with things like chairs and bedding on top).  After I got the suitcases home, I panicked!  The suitcases looked so small and I'd already given boxes of clothes and shoes to the op shop, but there was still heaps of clothing in the wardrobe.  Then under the sensible guidance of hubby, we did a dummy pack and he promised that if I got cold we would buy me more warm clothing should I need it (yes I'm a cold frog).  Disclaimer: we also cheated a little by having a plastic storage container just for shoes as 1) I wanted to keep them seperate to keep the clothing cleaner 2) allow easy access should we need to change from bush/beach shoes to something decent/cleaner etc.  Works a treat, highly recommend it.

8 Months Later: No problems living out of a small suitcase.  In fact if I dig deep, there are still a couple of things I've never even worn.  Mostly since camping is so casual I wear the same old favourite shorts/pants for a couple of days, and use a new shirt each day.  Love living the simple life!  In fact ,we attended a Purple Party last night for a friend and I got to wear my purple shirt and purple high heels (just remember to pack 80% practical and 20% for the soul!).

2 pr denium jeans (1 good pair, 1lived in), 2 pr track suit pants

1 pr thin black dress pants (no ironing)

2 pr shorts, 5 pr 3/4 pants (2 good pair, 3 lived in), 3 skirts (no ironing)

1 little black dress (still unworn after 8 months), 2 dresses (1 unworn after 8 months)

6 T shirts, 2 good shirts (no ironing), 3 long sleeve T shirts

1 woollen jumper, 2 turtle neck jumpers, 1 v warm Kathmandu jacket

1 dressy 3/4 length jacket, 1 light dressy jacket, 1 light cardigan, 2 fleecy sports  jackets

2 pr thick woollen socks, 5 pr sports socks, all my undies & bras, 5 singlets

THERMAL UNDERWEAR (2 tops, 1 bottom.  Have lived in them in winter), beanie, scarf, gloves

2 pr PJ's (cool & warm)

1 pr swimmers & sunshirt, 2 hats, 1 raincoat

thongs, 2 pr high heels (black & purple), sports shoes, black enclosed dress shoes
